The crown jewel of the swanky and luxurious Ubud estate, The Pala, Villa Agung enthrals you the moment you step into its porch via ornately carved wooden gates. A courtyard with lawned gardens along a paved path leads you to the single-pavilion villa, beckoning you to come through its stunning gold, green and red traditional entranceway.
Villa Agung is a sight to behold, furnished lovingly with family heirlooms and priceless artefacts such as furniture gifted to the family by the former President of Indonesia and rare art. Marvel at pieces such as a giant sailboat made entirely with cloves, or a statue of a lady made with coins. Large living areas on two floors allow your group to spread out, and though the villa offers five lavish bedrooms to accommodate up to 10 guests, it never feels crowded.
With four bedrooms furnished with king-sized beds and one with twin beds spread across both levels, there’s plenty of space for everybody. Large windows beckon you towards the balcony which overlooks the generously sized pool and magnificent garden, a great venue for weddings and events. The lower level of the pavilion, which houses an open-plan living and dining area leading onto the garden and pool, is reached via very gentle and comfortable steps, a thoughtful touch to allow multi-generational living.
Meals are a delight in the estate’s Hura Restaurant but if you prefer to whip up a snack for the kids, a fully equipped kitchen in the villa is available for your use. It leads into an industrial kitchen that can be used during events, making catering a breeze for your celebrations.
Ask the Estate Manager to arrange a walk through the fruit and vegetable garden to show your kids how food grows on farms, or book a paddy experience where your family can be part of the planting or harvesting of rice. To relax, the riverside lawn down a series of steps built into the hill is perfect for yoga or spa therapies and offers a great picnic spot too. All of Ubud’s charms are within easy reach, with the palace merely 6 km from the estate. The airport is 41 km away, and the journey takes up to 1.5 hours.
