Blue Heights Villa, Hiriketiya

Blue Heights was designed by a leading Sri Lankan architect (Amila De Mel) who for many years worked with the late, great, Geoffrey Bawa. Constructed in 2008, the house has certain characteristics of vernacular architecture. The built-up area is almost 7000 sq feet - out of which 1500 sq feet is open verandas - and the villa consists of two buildings. A single-story house of linear design consisting of an en suite double bedroom, an indoor sitting room / study containing the Sat TV, the kitchens, and has a wide-open veranda running its full length at one end of which sits the family dining table.  An immense and stunning old Fort door divides the outdoor dining space and the kitchen. It works on a warehouse pully system and backs onto a vast and beautiful terracotta coloured wall. A very clever and appealing design style, with a focus on clean lines. The second building is a two-story villa containing the remaining three en-suite bedrooms. The spacious master suite is upstairs and has access to a private sun deck, shaded by cinnamon branches, which overlooks the Japanese Frangipani orchard, and out to sea. The remaining en suite bedrooms - a double and a twin bedroom - are on the ground floor and have French windows that lead out to the same peaceful tree lined garden. The bedrooms, unfussy in design but all have air con and overhead fans, come with good hanging space. The bathrooms, each unique, are carefully considered with walk in showers and key pad safes.  The owner clearly has a keen eye for a beautiful door which are consistent throughout the property and indeed the whole interior of the villa is styled with an eclectic mix of carefully selected antique furniture. The spacious plot slopes down towards the sea allowing an incredible view and spectacular sunsets. Many an afternoon can be spent, pool-side or on the veranda, admiring the tropical turquoise sea, twinkling in the background. The gardens are large enough to be able to find a peaceful retreat whilst a competitive game of badminton is being played and there is a portable massage bed, so you can choose the perfect spot for a pamper session. The stunning horse shoe bay is a very respectable 2-minute walk!  On your way out please don’t forget to shut the magnificent door, to secure the sanctuary of BH, but also to keep Timmy the Dalmatian in.  He’s a super friendly dog and an excellent addition to this property - especially popular with children! This villa is a fantastic location for surfers as it fronts one of the best breaks along this stretch of the coast, with other surf breaks of varying difficulty nearby. The bay itself has emerged as a popular destination with beach bars and a restaurant or two. The house comes with an excellent chef and dedicated team of house staff. Blue Heights offers a no frills fun beach holiday backdrop or a fantastic location for a wedding or special occasion.
