The house “was designed as a weekend retreat high on the red cliffs which frame the eastern end of Weligama Bay. The visitor climbs a narrow track from the busy main road and after a final twist discovers a breath-taking view across the bay framed by a grove of swaying coconut palms. Closer inspection reveals that the coconut trunks are harbouring a platoon of black columns and that a thin horizontal roof is floating amongst their fronds. A simple pleasure pavilion stands on a stepped plinth facing towards the place of the setting sun: a house stripped to its essentials.”
There are living and dining areas in the open-plan pavilion at the front of the villa with its huge lush lawn, where you can while away the day. Alternatively soak or swim in the infinity pool that looks out to the staggering scene of Weligama bay below. The gorgeous tropical garden lends itself brilliantly as a natural yoga platform and meditation space.
Retreat indoors towards the back of the house, where the 3 bedrooms are split, with the master and en suite upstairs, while the remaining 2 bedrooms, bathrooms, living area and pantry are located downstairs.
From the beautifully landscaped garden, take the paved steps down to the private pristine beach below to enjoy bathing in the calm seas, snorkelling at the nearby reefs and seeing all the spectacular sea life.
This exclusive hilltop location is the perfect backdrop for a truly special wedding or special occasion. Only five minutes away from the infamous whale watching mecca of Mirissa and the surf break of Weligama, Red Cliffs boasts an incredible postcode.
