Sisindu Tea Estate
Travelling up to this remarkable house and beautifully manicured 8-acre tea estate which also has cinnamon, pepper and fruit groves - the track is bordered by a stunning stone wall dividing the pineapple plants, mango and avocado trees on one side with a carpet of perfectly tended tea on the other. A superb collaboration between the English owners and an acclaimed Sri Lankan architect has evolved to create this truly spectacular tropical paradise.
The linear design of the house which is set along the crest of a hill (800ft above sea level) allows you to feast on the far-reaching views at every turn. The six bedrooms - sleeping up to 14 adults (one bedroom has two double beds) - are positioned from one end of the property to the other and all benefit from incredible attention to detail and ensure every need has been anticipated.
This truly splendid property is owned by a sociable couple who have designed the house to cater for fun gatherings of family and friends as well providing plentiful opportunities for seclusion and privacy. There is an amazing selection of areas to eat, drink, sit, lie, bathe, breathe, play and chat.
The long dining table is located on a covered veranda next to the magnificently stylish and spacious kitchen which elegantly leads into an enormous open sided sitting room with soft sofas and armchairs. Both the kitchen and sitting room enjoy 360 commanding views of the surrounding estate and beyond.
At the far end on the right of the sitting room is a peaceful open sided pavilion with striped cushions and a lily pond that looks across the valley onto the hills in the distance. Beyond this space are stone steps that lead up to the roof terrace which is the perfect setting for sunset drinks and a sublime panorama.
Continue walking through the sitting room and you come to a brilliantly chic and cosy air-conditioned study and TV room with countless cushions and all accommodating comfort to collapse in.
Walk down a few steps and you arrive into the most exotic and fabulous bathroom built around an ancient rock. The open-air stone coloured bath tub positioned discreetly behind the rock has a screen for modesty but remains the benefactor of natural light and the superb setting. There are two showers, twin vanities and two separate shuttered loos. The Master bedroom and en suite living area with 32” Satellite TV boast the ownership of this extraordinary scene which sits next to the fantastic and alluring L shaped infinity pool and terrace with the view of all views. Sunbeds are scattered around the pool while two exclusive double beds are elevated on their own platform surrounded by a shallow pool, ensuring the perfect sunbathe. Connected by an elegant spiral staircase is a further sunbathing terrace on a lower level - ideal for quiet reading and extra privacy.
There are five further beautifully furnished and well thought out bedrooms with en suite bathrooms at the other end of the house. One queen double dictates ownership of the first floor with a fabulous en suite balcony bath tub and indoor shower. Two King doubles and one twin with single beds, which can be made up as a double, are housed under a separate roof a few stones steps away, and then there is a King double twin room in the gorgeous Garden House, a feather’s throw across the tea track.
Below the Garden House is the recently appointed Yoga shala with breath-taking views across the jungle canopy to the faraway hill on the horizon.
This villa is beyond anyone’s wildest dreams - it’s a miracle that true luxury like this love project are available to rent. Words and photographs cannot fully express the sheer magnificence of this new villa - you’ll only truly understand when you arrive!
