We just arrived back home late last night from our fantastic stay in Positano and the Villa San Giacomo. Before I start telling you about the Villa, let me address your question about the ease of walking in town and in accessing the Villa.

I don’t know if you have ever visited Positano (this was our first visit); but the entire town is built into the side of a mountain. Everywhere you go in town is reached by climbing up and down steps (some are fairly steep) or inclined sidewalks. I’m not sure if there are any accommodations that would minimize the amount of walking and climbing needed to explore, shop and enjoy this beautiful town.

The Villa San Giacomo is situated fairly high on the mountain and can only be reached by walking and climbing steps. The Villa has luggage porters to handle your arrival and departure.

The villa was built in the middle 1700’s and the owner has done a beautiful job with its preservation, restoration and modernization. I’ve attached a link to a video tour that my nephew Neil made during our visit that gives a very good overview of the accommodations. Since Carol and I hosted this gathering, she was given first choice of bedrooms. It was a very tough decision on which bedroom was ‘the best’ and, ultimately, it was the view from the windows that helped her to decide.

The staff consisted of Chiara (Villa Manager, Concierge and language assistant), Consiglia (Chef extraordinaire!) and Enza (housekeeping, grounds and pool maintenance). These three wonderful ladies made sure that all of our needs were accommodated and all three went above and beyond in helping us our 6 month old great nephew (although Enza became the Italian grandmother he never knew that he had!)
